On November 19, 2014, Dr. Yusif Muhammad Sadiq, the Kurdistan Parliament Speaker, received a delegation headed by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the chief of Art for Living Organization.

After expressing his happy feelings over the delegation?s visit to Kurdistan, Sadiq told Shankar:?On behalf of Kurdistan people, I thank you and appreciate your assistance and support provided to those people who have been displaced from other parts of Iraq and are now based in Kurdistan Region.?

Since the early stages of the ISIS attacks Iraq, over 1.5 million Iraqis have been internally displaced or forced to flee across borders for their safety.

The Art of Living and the International Association for Human Values team of The Art of Living has been working to bring relief to refugees and internally displaced people (IDP). From its base in Erbil, the team has brought relief in the form of food, water and hygiene products to 5 different camps, each camp sheltering 550 Iraqi families. IAHV has reached more than 2,000 families.

On his part, Shankar hoped that different ethnic groups in Kurdistan can live together peacefully and far from terror and aggression. Then, he presented a silken scarf to the Kurdistan Parliament Speaker as a symbol for peace and coexistence.

Ravi Shankar, commonly known as Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, was born on 13 May 1956. He is also frequently referred to simply as «Sri Sri" (honorific) or as Guruji or Gurudev.

He is a spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living Foundation, which aims to relieve individual stress, societal problems, and violence.

In 1997, he established a Geneva-based charity, the International Association for Human Values, an NGO that engages in relief work and rural development and aims to foster shared global values.
